Celebration of Life
Ways to say goodbye during this time
During these recent times, losing a loved one has become even more difficult by the inability to say goodbye with family and friends in the way which they deserve.
As lockdown eases, smaller memorial services could now be held on the day of the funeral. For those who have been unable to do this during lockdown or requiring a larger service, it can also take place on a specific date in the future. This maybe on your loved one’s birthday, prior or after the scattering/interment of ashes or the anniversary of their death.
Holding a memorial service is the perfect way for a larger group of people to say goodbye and truly celebrate their life and what they meant to their family and friends, particularly if there were no mourners present or the number of attendees at the funeral were limited due to COVID-19.
With the conservatory, our fully self contained Rosewood Suite or alfresco in the heated courtyard, we have a number of options to help you do this. Our popular Afternoon Tea menu can be available at other times of the day or evening or we could offer a drinks reception with a buffet or menu to suit.
We can even offer special accommodation rates for those that may need to stay over.

Herriots Remembrance Trees
At Herriots we have always been environmentally aware, taking steps to ensure that our business is as "green" as possible. However, with the impact that lockdown has had on the planet, we wanted to do something on a larger scale locally. The result will be the planting of 1000 trees in woodland on the outskirts of Thornton-in-Craven which surrounds footpaths that link nearby villages.
As a team we know personally the devastating impact that Covid has had on families that have lost loved ones. Taking inspiration from the "Grieving Together Campaign" we thought it would be a nice idea to offer these trees as a memorial to anyone who has lost someone to the virus within a 10 mile radius of Skipton. This will be in the form of a heart shaped memorial plaque placed by the tree with details of their family member.
There will be no cost invloved as Herriots will be funding the cost of the trees, however if people would like to make a donation in memory of their loved one, we have set up a funding page for Airedale Hospital and Community Charity (registered charity number 1050730)
2020 is Airedale Hospital's 50th Anniversary of providing a high level of service to our local community. Many of their celebrations have had to be cancelled due to Covid 19, therefore we thought this would be the perfect way to say thank you for all their hard work and dedication during this difficult time.
